Weight Loss Honesty: Day 3
Would you do it? If you had any choice would you live with someone that was a constant, chronic nag? What if they were also negative, whining and demanding. This grumpy roommate is never happy unless you do everything she wants all the time. Why would we put up with that kind of behavior in our own home? Let me quickly remind my dear reader that this blog is not about child-raising or cranky spouses and family members. Instead today we are looking into why weight loss can be almost impossible!

So who is this cranky nag we are tolerating? I am glad you asked! For me it has always been my flesh. I just didn’t know it until recently. There is this side of me that has to have its own way. She stomps her feet, throws fits and even pouts if she can’t get what she wants. So today I decided why listen to her anymore. Since I can’t kick her out I did the next best thing. I packed up her stuff and moved her up into the attic. I didn’t have to lock the door because Jesus followed me up the stairs and put a pad lock on the door. Smiling he seemed to say, “Didn’t you know that when I died on the cross I destroyed her power over you?” Now she can still use her mouth and yell and scream but she is not in charge anymore; God is.

I kind of have this picture of Proverbs 21:9 in my head, “Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.”

Dave is busy teaching his way through the book of Romans this fall. One of the great verses in chapter 6:6 sums it all up well. “For we know that our old self was crucified with Him (Christ) so that the body of sin (our flesh) might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”

I am enjoying a peaceful day since I moved that crazy old aunt into the attic and as the minutes tick by I have noticed a new gentle voice with loving words of grace and hope encouraging my heart. This comforting voice was there all along I just couldn’t hear it over all the loud nagging.
