Weight Loss Honesty: Day 2
I have discovered that good intentions never bring results. I have had lots of good intentions over the years. Like the yearly New Year’s resolutions that ring hollow after only a few days. “I’ll do better next time,” is a frequent promise with sincere and good intentions but the next time is always just another empty and powerless commitment to my flesh that can profit nothing.

Yesterday I told David to wake me up at 5:45 AM so we could do our daily walk in the morning instead of at night. Our Wednesday evenings are now occupied with teaching at our church. The next morning when the alarm rang, my whinny flesh came up with the most creative excuses to stay in bed. Even I was impressed! Obedience for me has become a decision to not listen to the flesh at all and instead respond to the Spirit. Also each new obedience is always challenged. I had good intentions but the excuses won out yesterday and I chose to stay in bed. This morning I was ready for the alarm and the nagging complaints and since I had made a decision the night before that I would walk no matter what I choose to ignore the whinny flesh and instead I had a nice 2 mile walk with my husband.

So here is an “ Aha moment”… I never realized that over the years I was asking God to bless my flesh; my fleshly efforts. I wanted God to come down and fill my flesh with His Holy divine presence and make it do what it can’t do. Our flesh tricks us into focusing on the wrong object. Self! Jesus Christ says, “Set your eyes on Me! Trust only Me, follow only Me! Abide in Me!” Look away from the body of flesh to Christ. “Not I but Christ.”

If I listen to what my flesh is telling me to do each day and do only what it says, what kind of person would I become under its control? Scary thought! If instead, “I fix my eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of my faith who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God,” (Hebrews 12:2) maybe I will start looking like and reflecting Him.
