I put 5,000 miles on the van over the past three weeks but it was well worth the many hours of driving as I felt like I was on a mission to bring my family back home again.
Amanda bravely joined me on this cross-country adventure that started in South Texas on November 29th. We drove to Comfort, TX and dropped off at the cabin all the Christmas family reunion items before driving to Oklahoma City. We spent the night in Edmond, OK with a dear family friend, Sharon Wilkie.…

Christmas had ended over a month ago but my tree still stood proudly and rather alone in the front living room window. I am sure even the neighbors were beginning to wonder if I would keep it up till Valentine's Day. Our family dog Chloe had adopted the tree as her favorite place to sleep so she really didn't mind but I was dreading putting away the now very dusty tree and ornaments.

A girlfriend told me last week that she had been searching for Thanksgiving "stuff" for her home to make the holiday a little more special this year. She found: after Halloween close out sale merchandise and Christmas. Squenched in between those two things in one drug store she found "18 or so Thanksgiving articles" and that was it. No holiday decorations, almost no Thanksgiving cards. We were in a consignment store that day and she…

We grabbed our Bibles, brief cases and two extra water bottles and hurried out the hotel door for the street below. My husband who is a professor of theology at Rio Grande Bible Institute in south Texas was invited to give a three day conference in a dangerous area of southern Mexico known…

One of my favorite ways to honor our Lord is to enjoy the bounty of creatures He created for us. I used to be a quite casual observer of birds, most often interacting with them in relationship to my car....cleaning up after them or maneuvering to avoid hitting them. Once in awhile I would feed some...at a restaurant or park but mostly they struck me as brown, messy and visible only when creating problems. Initially with a "beat em or join em" motivation I watched birds fairly casually, but now…

O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD, Let us shout joyfully
The Hebrew word translated joy is also translated as “shout,” “rejoice,” “sing,” “sing aloud,” “shout for joy,” “sing for joy,” “cry out,” “shout aloud.” It means to give a ringing cry in joy, exultation, and praise. What is joy? Joy is “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure;…

Rededicating my life on my birthday :)
Today at 2:43am after a wonderful day celebrating my 21st birthday!
So I know turning 21 doesn't mean I'm super old or anything but it has got me thinking about a lot of things. I DO NOT want to turn…

We were so excited to hear from our daughter-in-law Amy Love today telling us she received a phone-call from Dan. He passed his march and also his last PT run and test and is now finished with all his qualifying requirements and will be graduating on the 17th. Amy said that Dan's platoon was ordered out at 2:30 AM early Thursday morning instead of waiting until midnight Friday. We didn't know the exact time he would march but knew that God would apply all our prayers to the moment of need. We…

I've read several blogs by pure happenstance this week (Thank you Lord) and it seems a good day to start my own. I suspect the content as it goes will reveal why...I have no real goal in mind. I was told this week by a psychiatrist in Washington DC (who treated one of my patients while he was at Walter Reed) that he had exhausted his expertise with this soldier and sent him to our trauma program "because you're the experts". What a humbling thing to hear someone else say. Someone to whom I…

Dear Ones,
It is July 3rd and soon the smell of grilled hot dogs and hamburgers will be floating through the back yards. Throw in a cold diet Pepsi, soft ice-cream and maybe evening fireworks and the Norman Rockwell moment is complete.
Sounds typical for this patriot holiday... but for some reason this year my heart isn't celebrating yet because deep in the heart of Georgia in a hot, sticky base camp called FOB (Forward Operations Base) four platoons of soldiers work…

Today is Father's Day and while we waited to leave for Church David was checking out some new sites on the internet. Suddenly he said, "Denise, come here. You won't believe what I have found." Dave showed me a website honoring the slain police officers in the line of duty called, "The Officer Down Memorial Page." We were so surprise to see Dave's younger brother, Michael D. Love's name listed with his bio info and some incident details. Of course it was very emotional for David to find a photo…

Today is a special day. Not only is it a national holiday but it is also our son's birthday who is in basic training. We were praying that God would give him a wonderful birthday but since he is in basic training we knew it would be kind of hard to pull off but we prayed anyway. Apparently the word
hard is not in God's vocabulary!

Yesterday we returned from attending two mission's conferences in Pennsylvania. The first conference was held at our home church, Community Bible Church in Marietta, PA and the second was held at Ebenezer Bible Fellowship church in Bethlehem, PA. God spoke to our hearts in many ways during this trip but I would like to share one that stood out in my mind as a reminder and warning to all in ministry.
We were given many opportunities to share with other missionaries, the pastoral staff…

After six years of visiting area churches all over the Valley we had begun to wonder if we would ever find a place to settle down and call our home church. God however had everything under control and our frequent visits to many churches across the Valley have given us a good sense of where the Body of Christ is at locally and what the particular needs and challenges are. We are thankful to announce that we have finally found a sense of connectedness and belonging with a local Spanish Church…

It is early morning Inauguration Day as I sit reflecting on the year past and the one we face. Comfort from the words of Isaiah ring in my ears.
“He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in… lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great… Continue

It was a wonderful day of awe when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem riding on the back of a donkey. The crowds turned out to cheer and wave palm branches as they welcomed their new King. They were full of hope and believed Him to be the one who would solve all of their earthly problems.
The fallacy of that day is that the Jewish people failed to recognize Jesus for His true purpose and identity. He did come to offer liberation, hope, and peace; but they failed to recognize Him as the…
