About Me (interests, hobbies, family, ministry, etc.):
My relationship with Jesus is the essence of all that I am and fuels my motivation to enjoy life in dog years! I love to be playful and passionate, to dream and explore, and to go deep in heart with God and to seek His will for me each day.

On this Life Journey, I've discovered the sheer depths of sorrow, heartache, and despair, and the indescribable peace and joy that can be found in the midst when we surrender all and lean on God by trusting in His promises.

God has blessed me beyond measure and among the greatest blessings are my husband Dave, our wonder beagle Maggie Mae, countless friends, and a big loving extended family.

I've been a published writer since the age of 15. I love expressing myself and faith values through the written word, but also through graphic design, creating web communities, and video. God has greatly blessed me with open doors in these areas and I look forward to what lies ahead.

You can see a little of my passion for nature and the outdoors at my website LandscapeBliss.com!

Our Maggie Mae, she loved unconditionally!

We lost our baby girl, Maggie Mae. Although I'd had her for almost 13 years when I met Dave, she quickly fell in love with him too and welcomed him into our little family! God blessed us with almost 15 glorious years -- Maggie truly reflected God's unconditional love for us.

She loved to be outdoors with me and to help with the gardening – here she takes a break to enjoy the beauty of the garden.

One of Maggie's favorite places in the house perched in her chair watching the activities in the park across the street and waiting for Dave to come home from work. It was daily routine for her.

Maggie was always about comfort and loved to sleep on the back of the loveseat while I worked nearby – Christmas 2006.

Like me, Maggie was a sunny, warm-weather girl, although the rare Texas snow intrigued her.

Maggie had a hilarious personality and one of the more entertaining things she did was sit on the arm of the furniture as if she were sitting atop a horse in saddle. And she loved to watch TV – here, I caught her watching Nightline.

In 1999, Maggie met Charger, a Jack Russell Terrier who had a very unusual bawk, we soon found out he was from the east coast. They became best friends and truly loved each other. Here, they're shown on one of their favorite dates, staring at Maggie's dog food bag anxiously awaiting their treats, after a romp at the park. This is one of my favorite photos as it captures the spirit of these two. Wagging tails and happy hearts!

Before we bought the house, Maggie and I lived in this awesome apartment complex with our first floor patio adjacent to a great little lake. We fed the ducks each morning watching the sunrise on the lake and did the same thing each evening watching the changing colors of the sky.

However, when the ducks came onto our patio, they tended to create havoc knocking stuff over and making too much noise with their quacks; Maggie didn't understand why I wouldn't let her show them the way back out.

That same apartment complex was very animal friendly, they especially loved dogs and began holding an annual party where the fur babies could dress up and bring their people. The first year 1999, we decided to go on the day of the party, so I quickly made Maggie a Hawaiian Girl outfit. But some of the other dogs in fancy costumes made fun of hers. Maggie was totally cool about it all because afterall, she was able to feast on and devour unlimited dog treats!

The next year, we planned ahead and Mom and I thought it would be fun for her to go as a 50's Be-Bop Beagle, complete with black cat on a leash skirt. Another homemade outfit, but much less noticeable as such. Maggie seemed to enjoy the silliness of it all, especially since we went to a party with lots of other dogs and unlimited treats!

To truly appreciate the message of this photo is to understand the unending, obsessive desire to constantly eat that is a Beagle trait. Maggie was no exception! We used this photo on a little Christmas card in 1999 with the message that with Christ as our example, Christmas was about giving sacrificially to others. Maggie really wanted those dog cookies!

When she was just a puppy, I sang a lot of silly songs to her; she seemed to thoroughly enjoy the attention and silliness of it all. One song she seemed to particularly like is "You are my Sunshine" --- I would later sing softly to her whenever she was ill, especially as she recovered from back surgery at the age of six and in this past month. I like Sara Hickman's version of this song:

You Are My Sunshine - Sara Hickman

Maggie brought tremendous joy and life into our lives. We loved as her as deeply as one can love and we will miss her always! But we praise God and thank Him for blessing us with such joy.

"The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised."
Job 1:21

Two Historic Days ~ 2000 Years Apart

Posted on January 20, 2009 at 10:12am 0 Comments

It was a wonderful day of awe when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem riding on the back of a donkey. The crowds turned out to cheer and wave palm branches as they welcomed their new King. They were full of hope and believed Him to be the one who would solve all of their earthly problems.

The fallacy of that day is that the Jewish people failed to recognize Jesus for His true purpose and identity. He did come to offer liberation, hope, and peace; but they failed to recognize Him as the… Continue

The Meaning of Christmas ~ One Glorious Holy Night

Posted on December 11, 2008 at 2:34pm 0 Comments

What does Christmas really mean to you? Christmas to me has always been about the birth of Christ, but last year, I began to really think on just what that birth actually meant. It was more than just the miracle birth, it was the significance of the Divinely planned life Christ was destined to live on earth for mankind. For me. He was willing to take on the burden of all of my sins so that I might have an intimate and eternal relationship with God. Wow! This is a little devotional I put… Continue

Unbridled Love and Devotion for Abba Father -video

Posted on December 9, 2008 at 8:46pm 0 Comments

How do you greet God? Is it formal? Distant? In fear? With the love and devotion reflective of an intimate relationship?

When I saw the video (below) tonite of a young girl's raw, unbridled emotion for her soldier father, I had a tug in my heart of the innocence and depth of love that we're privileged to have with our own Abba Father because of Jesus Christ.

The Little Children and Jesus

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them,… Continue

Alva,

I showed this site to my friends Bob and Rachael Gwassa in Zanzibar. They were interested is seeing if you might be able to do the same thing for them to be able to keep in touch with those that follow and support their ministry. Please let me know if this might be something you would be interested in doing.

Thanks,
Jan

Oh Sweet Alva,

I know the loss of Maggie Mae is a hard one for you. You are in my prayers. We have a great number of animals here on the ranch, and each one holds a special place in our hearts. We have shed many of tear when each one passes away. I pray the God of all comfort will comfort you in a special way. Thanks for posting all the precious pictures.

Your sister in Christ,

Alva,
I would love to share some about the short term trips I have been able to be a part of.

Funny about the Longhorns, my husband, our daughter and I all graduated from A&M. We have several Longhorns with Aggie names. We do enjoy our cows!
